Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 81 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 84 without.
Mortal Ray is best hunted in Uleguerand Range.

This spell can be easily soloed at level 90.

You will need sneak and invisible spells or items to reach camp.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Brontotaur 68-71 Uleguerand Range

Proceed to J-10 in Uleguerand Range. Your camp is in the narrow Canyon that opens up to the area circled in red on the map above. There are several Brontotaur to pull in the area. There is sound. magic and sight aggro on the way to camp. Be careful. There are also Raptors in the pull area that will aggro, taking a moment to kill them off before you pull saves annoyances.

I choose this camp as the best because there are a lot of Taurus around, and they are strong enough to take a TP building pounding, while not being so strong as to make keeping ones health up difficult.

Avoiding Mortal Ray is not hard at all. There is a very long period between the time you see the "Brontotaur readies Mortal Ray" message and when it casts. Fight unlocked, and as soon as the message appears simply turn around. As the spell is a Gaze attack it will then fail. There is more then enough time to turn, but you MUST keep an eye on the chat log as to not miss the message.

Feed the monster TP, turn before it uses the spell, then kill and learn!

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Stegotaur 47-49 Sacrarium

You need to be on or past CoP mission 4-3 to hunt here.

There are Three Stegotaur in the first part of the Sacrarium. One Taurus (Spawn A Above) is guaranteed to pop in the alcove at G-6. The Second (Spawn B) switches on and off from the G-7 to H-7 hallway area and the hall just south of it running from F-8 to G-8. To reach the 3rd spawn (Spawn C) which switches based on day, between the dead ends at J-7 and J-10, you will need to walk through the maze. It's walls change based upon the day of the week. Use the key at the bottom of the map to plan your path. There is sight and sound aggro on the way. WARNING! if Dark weather is up, a NM Corse walks the Maze. He is very very nasty. Avoid him.

You can solo the Stegotaur here easily. Avoid Mortal Ray as described in Camp #1.

Respawns here take a long 14 minutes, they are a bit squishy due to their low level, and with only the three spawns, it's not the best camp.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Maze Lurker (Taurus type) Varies Moblin Maze

One can learn Mortal Ray in the Moblin Mazes.

The Blue Mage must be at least level 81 in the Maze to learn the spell if they are level capped. The Tauri can be forced to any level by including a lower level member in your party. For example, enter as a level 40 Blue Mage, with a friend on a level 1 job, and the Tauri will be level 3 to 5. So you can choose what level of them you wish to fight by what level partner you bring. This allows for easy soloing.

By including a Rune#10 (Demons) on your Maze Tabula you will see only Demon type monsters in your run, and the chances of seeing Taurus types will be very high.

Taurus Hunting Grounds Camp #4
Name Level Location
Teratotaur 57-59 Sacrarium
Tyrannotaur 72-75 Uleguerand Range
Molech 78-81 Uleguerand Range

There are higher level Taurus in both the Sacrarium and the Range. These are not recommended.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. Easily at 90.
Do I need any special items? Yes. You also must be at or past the correct CoP missions to hunt in Camp#2. Bring sneak and invisible items if needed. A warp item to save a long unsafe walk home is nice also.
Do Taurus like to use the move? Yes, but it can take a while to show up.
The Spell's Doom can wear off before the monster dies. >:( It also misses ALOT.
Mortal Ray can be used to create the ??? Trait, when combined with ???
