Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Lamia come in four job types; Black Mage, Corsair, Ranger, and Summoner.

All of the regular job abilities and Magic spells that come with the Lamia jobs pose problems. The Black Mages love ~aga Spells and can be very dangerous.

Hysteric Barrage is only used when the Lamia's weapon is broken.

Hysteric Barrage can deal serious damage.

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 60 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 63 without.
Hysteric Barrage is best hunted in Caedarva Mire.

This spell can not be soloed. You will need a small party, or a skilled Level 75 solo-class (BST, NIN, RDM, DD/NIN). A basic experience party set up will work very well.

Party members should have a way to erase magic cast on players, so a White Mage, or White Mage subjob for the Blue Mage is called for. Having a way to silence a monster is a huge help. There is aggro on the way to camp, so Sneak and Invisible spells or items are needful. Remedies for Paralysis, can save your fights. You may need the Lamian Fang Key, a key item to move deeper into the Reef if you choose Camp B. A warp item will save a long walk home.

To learn the spell you must break the Lamia's weapon, a dagger, staff, or sword depending on type of Lamia. This is done by attacking from the monsters right side, and dealing critical damage. Blue Physical Magic, many weapon skills, and normal attacks that crit can all do the job. A Monk with merits in Critical Hit Percent is very useful here.

Lamia Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Lamia Fatedealer (COR) 73-75 Caedarva Mire

There are two Lamia that are right before the zone to Arrapago Reef at I-6 that can be hunted for the spell. The location is circled in red on the map above. There are also four Reserve Draugars near the Lamia.

There is significant sight and sound aggro on the way to camp including Chigoe, so take care with your sneak and invisible work. There are also several true sight imps on the way also.

Once you reach the small tunnel that leads to the Reef zoneline you are in your camp. You can now pull the Lamia down to it for your fights. You will need to kill or zone some of the Draugars to have clean pulls. With care you should have no problems getting them one at a time. If you get a link it's simple to zone. The Draugar will not link with the Lamia, but as they do Aggro via sound and Low HP, take proper care.

Once you are able to pull the Lamia, bring her to your camp. You want some distance from the Draugar, in case your HP dip yellow, to avoid blood aggro. Make sure you get fairly far back in the tunnel, as the Draugar can wander quite near the entrance, and can blood aggro from there.

Proceed to work to break the Lamia's weapon. It can be tricky, but it seems simpler to break these then some other monsters weapons. As always, Critical hits do the job. Sickle Slash works well for many Blue Mages. Once you snap the weapon, feed the Lamia TP and hope for your spell.

An average party should have no problems in this camp. A solid Trio with the Blue Mage, a Damage Dealer tank, and a Healer/Debuffer can easily deal with the Corsair Lamia at camp 1.

Lamia Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Lamia Graverobber (BLM) 73-75 Arrapago Reef
Lamia Palace Guard (RNG/COR) 80 Arrapago Reef

There are three Lamia that are in the first part of Arrapago Reef that can be reached with limited annoyance.

The first camp, A on the map above, is a Lamia Graverobber at J-10 in the cave right before the locked gate that the Lamian Fang Key opens.

In the Second camp, B on the map above, are two Lamia Palace Guard, at H-9. There are several Draugars, and other Undead aggro on the way to the camp. You will need to use the Lamian Fang Key to get to this spawn. You can always go back through the gate, but will need another key to re-enter this part of the map again if you do. These two are Level 80 NM's and should be avoided. You will need a full party to beat them. Not Recommended.

Camp A is easy to reach, with only some aggro worries from the Merrow and Draugar at H-10. Sneak and Invisible past them.

Once you reach camp, Proceed to work to break the Lamia's weapon. It can be tricky, but it seems simpler to break these then some other monsters weapons. As always, Critical hits do the job. Sickle Slash works well for many Blue Mages. Once you snap the weapon, feed the Merrow TP and hope for your spell.

A average party should have no problems in this camp. Silence and Head Butt are both very useful when fighting this casty Black Mage Lamia. A solid Trio with the Blue Mage, a Damage Dealer tank, and a Healer/Debuffer can easily deal with the Lamia at camp A.

Lamia/Lamie Necromancer (BLM) 81-83 Arrapago Reef
Lamia/Lamie Toxophilite (RNG) 81-83 Arrapago Reef
Lamia/Lamie Bellydancer (SMN) 81-83 Arrapago Reef

There are Both more 75ish and Higher level Lamias deeper in the Reef. They are very annoying to reach with much aggro on the way, and for the higher ones, a solid Merit or Exp party is needed to kill these. Not Recommended.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? No. You will need a party or a very skilled soloist to help.
Do I need any special items? Yes, a White Mage or White Mage subjob for Erase helps. Sneak and Invisibility items to reach camp. Setting Chaotic Eye and Head Butt will be a big help. A warp item to save a walk home.
Remember, you can only learn the spell from the Lamia, NOT Merrow.
Do Lamia like to use the move? It seems that this one can take a bit to see.
The Spell deals physical Hand to Hand Damage. It's the best physical damage spell you will see out side of the CoP only ones. It scales nicely as you gain levels.
Hysteric Barrage can be paired with Screwdriver or Occultation to create the Evasion Bonus Trait.
