Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Hippogryphs are fairly soft monsters for their levels. However The Choke Breath move can be very dangerous to a caster, or Ninja tank. Hippogryphs have true sight, and do aggro!

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 75 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 78 without.
Jettatura is best hunted in Riverne Site #A01.

The spell is easily soloed on the 40-42 Hippogryphs here.

You must be on or past CoP mission 2-5 to enter Riverne Site #A01.

Hippogryph Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Hippogryph 40-42 Riverne Site #A01
Cloud Hippogryph 45-47 Riverne Site #A01

There is one Hippogryph on the very first island right where you enter Riverne Site #A01. Several more Hippogryphs can be found if you move to the larger island to the NW. The number of targets is good, and that is what makes this a good camp. The re-spawn time is fairly fast here, so it is not hard to wait for another try also. At 80+ you will have no problems here at all. Use your low damage weapon, see the move and learn!

Hippogryph Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Nimbus Hippogryph 49-52 Riverne - Site #B01
Strato Hippogryph 55-57 Riverne - Site #B01

You can also hunt your spell from Nimbus Hippogryph in Riverne Site #B01. You will need to be on or past CoP mission 4-2 to have access. Move on from the island you enter the zone upon. There is one Nimbus Hippogryph not far from the portal on the second isle. More Nimbus Hippogryphs can be found a bit farther in. All the same rules that applied in camp one should be followed here also. Simple kills, lots of targets, a great learning camp.

Hippogryph Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Grauberg Hippogryph 71-74?? Grauberg [S]

If you do not have CoP access then you can also hunt your spell from Grauberg Hippogryph in Grauberg [S]! Camp is at the G-7/G-8 area as shown on the map above. There are fifteen Grauberg Hippogryph wandering in this area. Like all Hippogryph, they are true sight and will aggro. The Hippogryph here con DC to a 75, so the level range is probably in the 71-74 range. You may need sneak and invisible to reach camp, as some Quadav and Peiste in the Zone can still aggro by sound and sight to higher level players.

Due to the level of the monsters, you'll want to take some care with the fights even with these DC and EP mobs. A 75 BLU/NIN can solo here easily. Like all Hippogryph, these are quite soft and not hard to kill. Choke Breath and Jettatura can pose some danger from these Hippogryph, be ready for silence and paralyze. The Terror can stick for some time. Take care and you should be fine.

Hippogryph Hunting Grounds Camp #4
Name Level Location
Migratory Hippogryph 45??? Grauberg [S]

Perhaps the Lowest level Hippogryph outside the Ravines, is the DNC AF Weapon Monster.

To pop the Hippogryph you need to be with a DNC who is at least level 40, and who has not completed the AF Weapon quest for the job.

You can use a rental Chocobo from Bastok Markets (S) or Pashhow Marshlands (S) to avoid the Truesight mobs along the way to Witchfire Glen.

Have the DNC Check the ??? located at F-5 twice to spawn the monster. The Blue Mage should get aggro, and allow the DNC to logout so if the spell is not learned, they can return and pop it again.

This is an easy solo for a Blue Mage in the mid 50's.

Hippogryph Hunting Grounds Camp #5a 5b & 5c
Name Level Location
Heliodromos 45? Riverne Site #A01
Boroka 55? Riverne - Site #B01
Imdugud 55? Riverne - Site #B01

Three NM Hippogryph in the Ravine areas can teach the spell. They seem to spam it often, so if you are having trouble seeing it, these may be an option, and the drops are nice also!

5a) Heliodromos is not one, but three Hippogryph which share hate they will spawn approximately every 12-15 hours in the area marked on the 1st map above, if the Hippogryph on that island are not aggroed, attacked, or killed during that time.

If you pull one, you will instantly link all three, which is unavoidable. A BLM is a must for this fight seeing as ES Sleepga will work nicely, and give your party time to take down all three monsters, one at a time. These will spam Triple Attack so two NIN's are suggested in dealing with these mobs. They have a moderate amount of HP so taking them down is not too hard.

~~~
5b) Boroka will spawn every 21-24 hours in the area marked on the 2nd map above.
The NM is best killed with a least one or two NIN tanks, a DD and two mages for curing, both either WHM or another mage class subbing /WHM. Boroka is a BRD NM that spams Horde Lulluby, and the other standard bard songs. He's got a trademark move called "Hoof Volley" which he will do instantly after ever TP move he uses. It's a high damage move which can literally nearly one-shot your character if you don't have Shadows up, it also resets hate. This mob can be stunned. It can be trio'd by a NIN, THF and RDM but it takes patience and a lot of skill to do it.
~~~

5c) A lotto pop off the Hippogryph in the area marked on the 2nd map above, Imdugud is a THF class monster who spams triple attack a lot. He's got a lot less HP then Boroka so he can be taken down a lot faster. As before, the same setup with two NINs would work. Solo tanking is not a great option, as he's got decent accuracy and his triple attacking can eat shadows quickly.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes, easily.
Do I need any special items? Yes, Echo Drops and Remedies to cure possible status effects if you are using camp #3. A warp item to save a long walk home is nice also. You also must be at or past the correct CoP missions.
Do Hippogryphs like to use the move? It seems to be used as often as the others.
Fantod can be paired with Tail Slap or Sickle Slash to create the Store TP Trait.
