Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Pandemic Nip can be a bad TP move to see, depending on which, and how many enfeebles it transfers. The rest are at best annoyances, though Incipid Nip can do some serious Damage.

Gnats aggro by sight, and are not linking. But the real issue is that Gnats have insanely high evasion and attack as though with a permanent Hundred Fists, so they can do amazing damage.

It has been also reported that if a player dies near them, they will hang around the body, even if it's not in their spawn area.

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 69 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 72 without.
Cimicine Discharge is best hunted in Fort Karugo-Narugo [S] or Sauromugue Champaign [S].

This spell is not easily soloed, as all Gnats are 75+, and hit very hard and fast. A small party is suggested, with a solid tank and healer. A full Exp or Merit party set up makes it much safer.

A way to Erase the slow and any tansfered enfeebles can be a big help, so a WHM, or /WHM can be of use. Having a RDM for Gravity helps. And setting Infrasonics, and Mysterious Light or Magnetite Cloud will aid in the fights.

Gnat Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Gnat 75-78 Fort Karugo-Narugo [S]

There are six Gnat spawns in Fort Karugo-Narugo [S], split between two camps, four in Camp a, two in Camp b. The map above shows the two camps circled in red. There is sound aggro possible from Rafflesia in Camp b, but it should not be an issue with some care. There can be sight and sound aggro reaching both camps, take proper care.

Once at either camp, and with a safe place to pull to, grab a Gnat, and begin your fight. You'll find that the problem with fighting Gnats is that they can hit hard and fast, and worse, they have a massive Evasion. So it is recommended that you have an Evasion down spell such as Infrasonics set, and having a RDM for Gravity, or setting Mysterious Light or Magnetite Cloud. These can make a huge amount of difference in your battles. Gnats can be enfeebled fairly easily, but remember that Pandemic Nip can switch up to five of those those enfeebles over to your tank, so be ready to reapply them to the Gnat, and erase your tanking friend!

Gnat Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Gnat 75-78 Sauromugue Champaign [S]

Seven Gnats can be found in Sauromugue Champaign [S] as marked on the map above. There are three spawns in Camp a, and four at Camp b. Camp a is the better of the two camps, due to less aggro from Goblins, which roam near the b Camp in fair numbers. Fight as detailed in Camp #1.

Gnat Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Gnat 79-82 Meriphataud Mountains [S]

Gnats, can be found in Meriphataud Mountains [S] as marked on the map above. They are of higher level then the the Gnats found in Camps #1 and #2 above, so they are, of course, harder to kill. The three camps in this zone are good due to ease of access, and number of spawns. So even though these Gnats are higher level, they might be a good choice if you have a solid party. Use the hunting methods described in Camp #1, remembering that these Gnats are a bit harder.

Of the three camps in this zone, Camp a offers the easiest access, a good number of spawns, and not too much aggro in the area, though there are a few Goblins about that you'll need to watch for. Camp B is wonderful once you reach it, as it only has a few Goblins wandering about with the Gnats, and a nice safe camp to pull to, located in the path leading back to the Fort zoneline. Camp C is not recommended, as there is a large amount of Yaguto aggro near.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? No. You'll need a party for this one.
Do I need any special items? No, but a WHM or /WHM and a RDM can be very useful. Setting Infrasonics, Mysterious Light or Magnetite Cloud will help.
Do Gnats like to use the move? Yes, they seem to like it.
The Slow effect seems to be about equal to that of the Spell Slow II
Cimicine Discharge can be paired with Leafstorm or Reaving Wind to create the Mag. Burst Bonus Trait.
