Special Notes on Monster and it's TP Moves

Marid spawn the vermin class monsters called Chigoe when they use a TP skill. They can do this up to five times in one fight. These Chigoe will aggro who ever has hate.

The Marid's tusks can be broken with critical hits from normal attacks, weapon skills, or Physical Blue Magic Spells. Marid seem to use Voracious Trunk more often once both tusks have been broken, though they will still use the spell even with both still whole.

The Damage moves are not overly bad for a Paladin Tank to handle.

Marid have a LOT of HP.

Obtaining the Spell
Minimum Blue Mage Level Needed To Acquire Spell: Level 81 with Magus Jubbah equipped, 84 without.
Barrier Tusk is best hunted in Abyssea - Vunkerl.

At 90 this spell can be soloed fairly easily. Make sure you set some AOE spells so you can kill off the Chigos, Whirl of Rage, Empty Thrash, and Body Slam all work well.

There is aggro on the way to camp at night, so Sneak and Invisible spells or items, or a Chocobo to get to camp is needful. Nothing more is needed.

Marid Hunting Grounds Camp #1
Name Level Location
Marose Marid 78-82 Abyssea - Vunkerl

~

Abyssea - Vunkerl is in my opinion the best camp for learning this spell. The reasons are two-fold. First, the Marid here do not spawn Chigos when they use TP moves. Second, the Atma and Abyssite buffs one can have in the zone makes things very safe and easy.

Zone into Abyssea - Vunkerl and get your time and Atma/Abyssite buffs.  Warp to Conflux 00, and walk north to the J-8 area that is circled in red on the map above. Here you will find Eight wandering Morose Marid. They do not aggro or link, and the area is safe to fight in. I like to pull them up to the little path to the south, where I don't need to worry about any wanding E. Murex and such.

The fights are very simple. Feed it TP, and kill it when you see the spell. With the right buffs, MP and HP will never be an issue. If you want to make your life a dot simpler, equip a Dispell spell to remove Barrier Tusk before you kill as it does cut ones damage a bit. But even if you don't it's an easy kill.

Marid Hunting Grounds Camp #2
Name Level Location
Marid 78-79 Wajaom Woodlands
Giant Marid 78-79 Wajaom Woodlands

Zone into Wajaom Woodlands and proceed to I-7/I-8 on the map. The exit areas from the path, between the two open areas to the North (I-7) and South(I-8), are safe camps. There will be sight and sound aggro on the way to them if it is night, so take precautions. Taking a Chocobo to camp is a perfect solution. At this camp you will find Marid in both of the open areas within the red circle above. There are no aggro mobs in the pull areas.

Pull a Marid to camp and get to work. They do not aggro or link, so they are easy pulls. As a 90 BLU you will have no trouble tanking these mobs. Cure yourself as needed to keep you HP up. You don't want to be low when a TP move happens and you get a Chigo friend joining in. The main thing to remember is to not burn thru your MP and run out. Feed the Marid TP and wait to see the spell. Then kill and learn!

Remember, each time the Marid uses a TP move it will spawn a Chigo. Use an AOE spell you have set to kill it off. The little bugs can still hit hard even at 90. It's good to have two AOE spells set in case the Chigo evades the first one you cast.

Marid Hunting Grounds Camp #3
Name Level Location
Marid 78-79 Bhaflau Thickets
Grand Marid 78-80 Bhaflau Thickets

Zone into Bhaflau Thickets and proceed to G-8 on the map. The exit from the path leading into this open area at G-8 is a safe camp. There will be sight and sound aggro on the way to it, so take precautions. Taking a Chocobo to camp is a perfect solution. Your prey can be found in the Red circle on the map above. There are six Marid spawns here.

See Camp #2 for the fight stratagy, all the rules hold here.

Special notes about the spell a Blue Mage may like to know
Can I solo it? Yes. You can do it at 90 with ease. Just be ready for the Chigoes if you use camps 2 or 3.
Do I need any special items? Yes, Sneak and Invisibility items, or a Chocobo to reach camp. AOE damage spells are useful also.
Do Marid like to use the move? It seems to be one that pops up often.
The Spell acts a bit like the RDM Phalanx spell, but is weaker, providing only 15% damage reduction.
Barrier Tusk can be used to create the ??? Trait when paired with the ??? traits.
